For A Faded BandWhen I was in high school I was part of the music program. Our music program was well funded due to being in a wealthycounty. Unfortunately the music program at my school was notrun by good people. My school had three bands like most schoolsin America do. Concert 3 Concert 4 and a symphonic band. Thesymphonic band was blessed with the latest and greatest instrumentslike contrabassons and grand pianos while down in concert 3 wewere lucky if we even had a bassoon or a marimba that wasn'tmissing some bars. we struggled through concert after concert without proper equipment. It wasn't until I left the band that Iwrote this song for it. let this be a song for underfunded and FADED bands.Use instruments that are old but still have a warm sound.bring out old percussion instruments that have been collectingdust in the bands storage room. find a peice of iron pipe such asa railroad track and use a hammer to strike it instead of a mallet.Bring extra glockenspiel bars to drop to the floor in measure 15to create the sound of broken machinery clattering to the floor.
